Balai Besar Tekstil (BBT)/Center for Textile (CFT) Bandung has been established since 1922 and named Textiel Inrichting Bandoeng (TIB). In 1966 this institution is known as the Institut Teknologi Tekstil (ITT)/Textile Technology Institute and in 1979, changed it’s structure and institutional separation into Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Industri Tekstil (BBPPIT)/ Center for Research and Development of Textile Industry and Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Tekstil (STTT)/ Textile Technology Academy. In 2002, BBPPIT changed its name to the Center for Textiles (CFT) under the Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Industri dan Perdagangan (BPPIP) / Center of Research and Development of Industry and Trade, Department of Industry and Trade.
As the implementation of the Regulation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2005 on Positions, Duties, Functions, Organizational Structure and Administration of the Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Presidential Regulation No. 10 Year 2005 regarding Organization Unit and Task of Echelon I of State Ministries of the Republic of Indonesia, the Department of Industry and Trade separated into two departments, namely the Department of Industry and Department of Trade. By the regulation of Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia Number 41 / M-IND / PER / 6/2006 on Organization and Work of Centers, Research Centers and and Industrial Standards in Department of Industry, in 2006 the Center for Textiles is under the Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Industri (BPPI) / Center Research and Development Industry, Department of industry.
